IV is very common (330 million peripheral IVs placed each year in the U.S)
It is a difficult skill to master.
On average it takes between two to three attempts to establish a patent peripheral IV site
It is more difficult with patients who are elderly, obese, dark-skinned, hypovolemic, have a history of IV drug use, or have chronic illness present unique problems to finding an appropriate vein to start an IV

In my opinion, I think it is a very cool application of AR. The idea is very simple: analyze the reflection of the infrared lights to get the location of the vein. The execution is also not complicated, the device project 2D image into patients'skin. It is not complicated 3d projection like what we do in class. And it works perfectly.
